Efforts For Children

Immediately after the Kedarnath tragedy ‘Friends of Himalaya’ and ‘Dhaad’ provided scholarship to the school students who lost their parents. In the first phase of the program 20 scholarships were distributed to students. Each student was paid 800 rupees per month. Currently 100 students are getting scholarship.

A Forum For Single Women

Many women lost their husbands due to plethora of reasons. Their concerns and aspirations remain inarticulate as most of the these women are less educated and unaware about their rights and available opportunities.

A forum was created to help these single women in Himalayan region. It initiated processes for changes in the government policies as per the needs, aspirations and requirements of local communities

A Forum For Farmer

Agriculture has played a vital role in the development of modern civilization. The majority of people in our country have their roots in agriculture or related activities. They or their forefathers were farmers Gradually, they quit farming and encouraged their children to join other profession because of the hardships, uncertainties, and miseries of peasant life. The farmer tearfully redirected their children to non-agricultural activities.

Forest Rights

'Friends of Himalaya' took active part in the formation of VanadhikarAndolan -a right based association - of people’s representatives (PRI) and activists from different fields.

A state level seminar was conducted on forest rights in Town Hall of Nagar Nigam. Friends of Himalaya coordinated with more than 100 organizations. A joint effort was made to implement the policies beneficial to local communities.

Care to the old aged members

Geriatric Care and Resource Centre was established in Uttarakhand to provide care to the old aged members of society. It will also function as advocacy group for the rights of old aged, apart from conducting the research to properly document the methods and limitations of providing geriatric care in the Himalayan state.
